to put the electronic devices down. In this parent program, Ellen Carrington will discuss teaching
your students healthy boundaries.

Ellen Carrington is a trained Parenting the Love and Logic Way course instructor and the parent of twin 16-year-old boys. She has taught this course for 15 years in schools, churches, and for foster parenting programs. Ellen has found the Love and Logic skills to have a positive impact on her parenting and in her work as an educator.  Ellen has 12 years of experience in leadership with middle and high school youth and has led a large variety of adult classes and retreats.  She has a Master’s Degree in Educational Ministry from Columbia Seminary in Decatur, Georgia.

We have 4 days till Christmas Break!!! We have 8 days till Christmas!! How exciting! :)

Ok, BIG news!! No home work this week and boy are the kids excited!!!

Wednesday is our field trip to The Center of Puppetry!! We will leave here at 8:00 am. Your child is welcome to dress up for this occasion. So excited for this event!

Friday will be a half day!

What an amazing Christmas Tree Presentation! So glad that so many parents were able to attend from Second Grade! Ok, so BIG news! Everyday this week and next, we can wear JEANS! Friday they can wear PJs and bring 1 stuffy!

Welcome back 2nd grade family!! We hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving break and family time! We are back and ready to work hard for the next 4 weeks! However, we have many fun and exciting events coming up!

 In regards to the Rudolph field trip, the cost for students and parents is $11.25. All parents are welcome to join us on this field trip! The students of Dawgs 360 members  do not have to pay, but ALL parents do have to pay. This is the new 360 guideline for the school year. 

 We will also be eating pizza at CiCi's in Conyers after the show. The cost for the pizza is $6.00 per child. 

 We will leave the school promptly at 8:00 and return around 2:00. If you are planning to join us, you may take your child with you from the show, or join us for pizza!

 Please fill out the form you will receive today in your child's GWA folder and return it by Friday.:)

May 21 - 25

BUCKET OF FUN - - If you are sending in items for the buckets, please send by Thursday; they will be sent home that day!

PET DAY is Wednesday from 1:15 - 2:15 on the grassy area behind the GWA baseball field.
                   Cats and other pets - 1:15-1:45
                    ONLY dogs - 1:45 - 2:15
       Do NOT bring pets to the classroom!!  Only ONE pet per child.
**** If it rains, Pet Day will have to be canceled.  Please check your email around 12:00 on Wednesday to know if Pet Day is canceled or a go!

FRIDAY - the last day of school!
                   We will do some fun activities with the children and wrap things up by 10:00.
                    There will be NO carpool or lunch served on Friday.
                   Come to the classroom or Kindergarten playground to pick up your child.

TEST SCHEDULE:
Math - Thursday
Students will present research paragraphs on Thursday (Research paragraphs will count as a test grade.)  Students should practice reading aloud their paragraphs at home!

Yearbooks were given out today!  If your child ordered one, he/she should have received it in class this afternoon.

We have completed Unit 6 and the Reading Street book!  We will review and take the Benchmark test this week.  Next week, students will take an end-of-the year benchmark test.

No new spelling words this week.  There will be a Unit 6 spelling quiz on Friday.  Study all the words from Unit 6.

MAY 7 - 11

We are reading our last story in Reading Street, "Jingle Dancer."  Next week, we will review and take the Unit 6 Benchmark test.

Reminder:  The students are working on a program at school called Reflex Math. The program builds math facts fluency.  Students CAN do this program at home too!  The more time they spend of the program (if they are playing it properly), the better they will be at knowing math facts!!  The goal is to memorize the basic addition/subtraction facts - no more counting on fingers.  Many students have made a great deal of progress; a few have reached 100% fluency and have started learning multiplication facts!
